There are two meetings to look at on Wednesday night, with Redcliffe and Shepparton getting my attention.

Redcliffe

Best bet – Race 2, No. 1: Brian Christopher
This looks like a good race for this former Kiwi, who has had two runs in Australia, both coming at this track. He led throughout to win here last week and was quite dominant in the run to the line. He’s drawn the pole here, should have little trouble holding the lead and from there can control and prove hard to run down.

Next best bet – Race 3, No. 2: Themidnightrambler
The Dwyer camp has this guy absolutely flying, and there’s no reason he can’t continue his winning ways. He had a second-row draw when racing here last week but was still a mile too good for his rivals. He’s now drawn the front row. He has gate speed, so he should find the front and be a painless watch.

Value bet – Race 5, No. 7: Abbey Diadema
If things fall into place from the second-row draw, she’ll take beating at a price. She was only a few metres off Themidnightrambler in the race mentioned above from last week. That form does read quite well, so drawn inside the second row, if she can land leaders back, she’ll be dangerous.

Best bet – Race 4, No. 10: Whatwillbeewillbee
Provided he gets away cleanly from the stand, he’ll be too good. Former Kiwi for Brent Lilley that made his Australian debut at Kilmore. He pressed forward to land in front before taking a sit, and he kept chasing in a good effort. Depth here is nowhere near as strong, and if he does everything right, I think he’ll win.

Next best bet – Race 8, No. 9: Illawong Parris
I think this is a perfect set-up for this four-year-old. He follows out a fast beginner, so despite drawing inside the second row, he’ll be handy, and if he can somehow find the front, it’ll be race over. His recent form has been strong. He’s clearly the one to beat in a winnable race.

Value bet – Race 10, No. 11: Salsboy
I’m hoping we can get an each-way price for this guy. He’s an eight-year-old having start 12, so clearly he’s had issues, but he must be showing something at home to persist. He was good late at Maryborough last time out after doing no work on the pegs. If he gets a decent drag into the race, he’ll be hard to hold out late.
