Wayne Bennett expects Jai Arrow to learn “an invaluable lesson” from his COVID-19 bubble breach that will cost the Queensland forward $50,000.
Bennett on Friday night stopped short of saying he was disappointed in his South Sydney star, but admitted he wasn’t proud of his actions in Queensland camp.
The Maroons prop was booted out of camp after allegedly sneaking a woman into his hotel room, in what is a clear breach of the game’s bubble.
Making matters worse, his actions came just days after St George Illawarra’s unofficial and highly-publicised team barbecue, which cost Paul Vaughan his contract and 12 other players a one-game ban.
Queensland are still weighing up whether to sanction Arrow further, with the 25-year-old having already copped a $35,000 fine to go with the loss of a $15,000 match fee.
His actions will also make him unavailable for Souths next week while still in isolation, after copping a two-game ban from the NRL.
But when asked if he was disappointed in the same player he brought though at Brisbane, Bennett went somewhat easy on the middle forward.
“I’m not proud of what he did but… he’s obviously going to learn an invaluable lesson from it,” Bennett said.

Arrow aside, the Rabbitohs have got through the Origin period reasonable safely.
Bennett’s men have won five straight games through the period, despite being without five Origin players in their 46-18 win over North Queensland in Newcastle on Friday night.
They have also had as many as eight players missing at a time to state camps during the period, but remain third on the ladder and just two points off Melbourne and Penrith.
“I can’t express how gratified I feel about that,” Bennett said.
“Because it’s the time of the year that I just know is the toughest time and particularly in a good club when you start to lose a lot of players.
“These are the games that really make a difference to your season… and it’s put us in a really good position.”
