Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with Bathurst and Shepparton getting my attention.

Bathurst

Best bet: Race 8, Number 1: Dulcetto

Massive drop in grade for this guy and confident he can bounce back. To be fair, he hasn’t really fired a shot in recent runs, but this is clearly the easiest race he has contested in some time. Drawn the pole, he can hold a forward spot and likely lead. His best can take this out.

Next best: Race 5, Number 4: Viva Las Vegas
Pretty confident that this four-year-old can atone for the first up defeat two weeks ago, which came at this track, and he had little luck in the straight and should have finished much closer. Has gate speed so think he can press forward and should he be able to lead, it’s race over.

Value: Race 4, Number 9: Ideal Denny
Lightly raced six-year-old that is getting better with each run and, despite this being a harder assignment than recent outings, with luck, he’s in with a shout. Strong winner here last week so if he can hold a spot either behind the leader, three back at worst, 1×3, he could run a cheeky race.

Shepparton

Best bet: Race 2, Number 1: On My Oath

He has let punters down his past two, but he gets a great chance to redeem himself. The last two starts, he has been beaten as an odds on pop, but he has done a power of work on speed in those runs, and has been brave. He’ll lead and take a power of beating.

Next best: Race 1, Number 6: Kyvalley Surfrider
Confident he can start the meeting on a winning note. Gave them fresh at Kilmore and has placed at his next two at Shepparton and Ballarat respectively, that run being last Wednesday. Has gate speed and with Chris Alford to steer, suspect he’ll be driven aggressively, find the front and be hard to get past.

Value: Race 4, Number 1: Major Zone
Hasn’t placed in six career outings to date, but he is getting better with racing and comes up with the pole draw. Attempted to lead throughout at Echuca last time out and battled on pretty well when a close up fourth. Should get a lovely run in transit and at a price, can run a positive race.
