Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with Tabcorp Park Melton and Shepparton getting my focus.

Melton

Best bet: Race 7, Number 9: Ozzie Playboy
Provided he doesn’t get dragged too far back from the gate, he’s the best on the program. He was massive in defeat last Wednesday at Shepparton after getting a mile back in the run. If he’s within range 400m out, his finale will be too brilliant for his rivals.

Next best: Race 8, Number 1: Duty Bound
Should be on speed throughout and proving hard to beat. Had a suck run behind the speed at Mildura last time out and finished close up when second, beaten under a metre. He’ll be holding the lead from the pole and with that, it’ll take a good performance to run him down.

Value: Race 4, Number 1: Keayang Alex
This lightly raced four-year-old that has only won the one from six, but his recent runs have seen him receive little to no luck. Last time out here, he got copped a bad check and finished tailed off last. Should hold a forward spot from the draw and prove a knockout chance at odds.

Shepparton

Best bet: Race 1, Number 6: Midnight Dancer
I am hoping for handlebars down at the start from the gate in search of the lead because if this filly does find the front, then it is race over. Has done a good job in two career outings and clearly has more scope than her rivals, and has the good recent form. Clearly the one to beat.

Next best: Race 3, Number 3: Barnaby
Fascinating to see what the market does with this first starter. If you’re going off the trials, he should be Winx odds. His recent trials have seen him beat up metro class horses, so for an unraced horse to do that suggests he’s pretty good and if he does run up to the trials, he spanks these.

Value: Race 8, Number 8: Allvictory Hanover
He follows out a fast beginner so should he land leaders back, he’ll take beating at odds. Just got into a tricky spot when racing here just under three weeks ago and couldn’t come on. Gets the suck run this time around and he’s going well. 1×3 for sure at hopefully double figures.
