There are two meetings to look at on Wednesday night, with Bathurst and Bendigo getting my focus.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Bathurst

Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Ryans Gangster
Saint Tropez is a former Kiwi who joins Steve Turnbull, so likely starts favourite, but has trialled in really ordinary time, so I am hoping that ensures Ryans Gangster is a decent enough price to have a bet. He resumes for Bernie Hewitt, with his last run being at Menangle in a Group 2 back in January when down the track. He has looked strong in a couple of trials and from the pole, likely leads and proves hard to get past.

Next best: Race 2, Number 1, Sweet Chariot
This horse has been somewhat disappointing since arriving from NZ but she finds a thin race and doesn’t need to be anything special to be winning. She has some gate speed, so it will be interesting where she gets to from the pole, whether she holds the front or opts for cover. Whatever the scenario, she’s the one to beat.

Value: Race 3, Number 1, Kingston Shannon
Alta Madeira is the likely winner, but will be deep in the red, so I am looking for a 1×3 bet in the race and this guy fits the criteria. This horse just got too far back on the pegs and was never a factor behind Alta Madeira last time out. This horse has drawn much better this time around. If he can land leaders back behind the favourite, he’s a near lock to run top three.

Bendigo

Best bet: Race 9, Number 5, Leer
This horse is a Brent Lilley-trained former Kiwi filly that looks perfectly placed here in the get out. Two runs for the stable saw her blitz her rivals fresh at Kilmore before a down-the-track effort at Melton. This horse has been kept on ice and with good gate speed and Chris Alford steering, expect an aggressive drive, finding the front and proving hard to run down.

Next best: Race 8, Number 2, Bide Our Time
This horse is a progressive three-year-old for David Moran that looks extremely hard to beat. This horse resumed at Kilmore where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, leading throughout and winning quite comfortably. There is a bit more depth here, but this horse should find the front comfortably again and win.

Value: Race 5, Number 1, Priddy Sublime
She’s a decent each-way gamble at likely double figures. This horse just did a bit too much work early on last time out at Cobram when looking for the front. This horse eventually got cover but then didn’t get the rub of the green in the straight. She’ll do no work from the draw and only runs well.
