With the Champions League starting this week and World Cup Qualifiers well underway, there’s no better time to master your free kick skills.

There’s something so beautiful about scoring from a free-kick. There’s nothing like it.

The defence is set, the opposition keeper has carefully lined up their wall and picked the perfect starting point to protect the net. Nothing is getting past them.

Your teammates are dancing and jinxing around trying to lose their markers.

The referee has blown their whistle and there’s a pause….all eyes are on you….you start your run up….you swing your leg and make crisp contact with the ball.

Everything is a blur for a second as the ball is in the air and then screams of ecstasy as it hits the back of the net. You’ll retell this story for years, to those who listen and even those who don’t.

But which style of freekick are you going to try? The pile driver relies upon Thor-esque power to blast the ball past the keeper and always looks impressive as the back of the net almost comes off its hooks. Get it wrong of course and you’re having to ask the caretaker to pop out to the car park to fetch the ball.

Or perhaps you are going to try a deft curler that starts off heading for the corner flag but bends its way back into the net as the keeper stands there looking at his team asking “How on earth did that happen?”

Maybe you want to recreate one of those Ronaldo knuckle balls – the one which moves fast through the air but somehow the ball doesn’t spin at all. It’s got a nasty wobble on it and that dip in the last millisecond has left many keepers looking foolish.

Watch the video in the player above and tell us which is your favourite amateur free-kick.
