There are two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with my attention being at Melton and Redcliffe.
Below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 3, Number 4, Carnera
It has been a little while since he has greeted the judge, but he gets a great chance to change that here. This horse is on the back-up after a game effort last Friday at Geelong when leading and fighting on pretty well when fourth. This horse drops a bit in grade and depth here, should find the front and prove hard to get past.
Next best: Race 2, Number 1, Crafty Old Fox
He loves the sit/sprint set-up and has drawn the pole. That should eventuate here. The rub of the green didn’t go his way last start at Shepparton when buried on the pegs. This horse draws to get a good sit behind the leader and with Chris Alford steering, he’ll take beating.
Value: Race 8, Number 1, The High Roller
If he can hold the front, he’ll run a cheeky race at odds. It has been a couple of weeks between runs since racing at Echuca when buried back on the pegs and not getting much luck in the run when fifth. This horse has drawn much better this time around. He should be able to hold a forward spot and run a much improved race.
Best bet: Race 3, Number 1, Parartrouper
This horse saves his best for Redcliffe and now he returns here, he wins. His last few runs have come at Albion Park and while he has run well, he has clearly not been as effective compared to when he races at Redcliffe. This horse has drawn the pole. Only bad luck will beat him.
Next best: Race 10, Number 2, Steeven
He’s here off a mini freshen-up, and he can make a winning return. This horse’s last run came here on July 7 when leading early before opting for cover and sticking on gamely in defeat when second. This horse has had no trials, but has residual fitness and with good gate speed, he should lead and prove hard to get past.
Value: Race 1, Number 2, Machin Out
He is 13 years of age, but he’s sneakily racing well and has drawn a soft gate. He’s in with a shout at a decent price. He hasn’t had much luck with gates in recent times, but has drawn Gate 2. He could well push forward and land on speed, and each-way at odds, he can run a cheeky race.
