Two meetings to look at on Monday, with my attention at Maryborough and Goulburn. Down below are your best bets for the respective programs.

Maryborough

Best bet: Race 8, Number 9, Blitzern
Talented colt for the McDonagh camp that I’m confident can make it three on the bounce. He has done it the hard way outside the speed in those wins and each time he has found plenty under pressure and has been too good. Whatever the scenario here, he’s clearly the one to beat.

Next-best: Race 2, Number 1, Aldebaran Lovisa
She’s racing well and looks ideally placed to break the maiden tag. Just did a bit too much work from a wide gate to find the front last time out at Bendigo and battled on pretty well when fourth. Drawn the pole, she’ll have little trouble holding the front and proving hard to get past.

Value: Race 5, Number 8, Ferocious Son
Ten years of age, but maintains a healthy zest for racing. Drawn inside the second row, so will need luck to get clear, but to counter that, he’ll do no work on the pegs. Not sure he was suited at Wedderburn last Sunday so on the bigger track, want to give him another chance and is worth an each way ticket.

Goulburn

Best bet: Race 1, Number 5, Araignee Flair
The good thing on the program and an ideal multi booster. Goulburn can be a funny track for trotters where mistakes can be made quite easily, but if this mare does trot all the way, she’s miles too good for what looks an average bunch. Two back, won at Menangle and was a strong winner here last time. Should be winning.

Next-best: Race 5, Number 8, He’s Dusty
The draw is tricky, but he does have quite good gate speed and if the button is pushed, I think he can find the front, lead, and prove very hard to get past. Good form around him overall and he did look strong in a trial win here just over two weeks ago, so I think he’s ready to go.

Value: Race 6, Number 1, Arma Naughty
Ignatius is a proven Group 1 performer, so you’d be stunned if he got beat; but I think there is a place bet at odds in the shape of this mare, who has had no luck with gates in recent times, but that all changes here with a pole draw. She can use gate speed to hold out early, then sit behind Ignatius and cling on for second.
