There are two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with Albion Park and Menangle getting my focus.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race 10, Number 2, Leap To Fame
It is a bit of a shame that this is the last race because there is quality deluxe engaged. There was a lot of arrogance about his win last Friday after sitting parked against the older horses. He made a mess of them. Back to his own age, he’ll find the front and take a power of beating.

Next best: Race 9, Number 3, Cobbity Castle
This mare has just grown another leg since coming to Queensland. Whatever race the Frisby camp sets her for, she just finds a way and has been a revelation. This is one of the tougher challenges to date for her, but she has the gate speed to lead and she’ll make sure Peppa Bliss knows she’s in a race.

Value: Race 3, Number 8, Beast Mode
He has been safely held his past two, but hasn’t exactly had the rub of the green. That changes here with an inside second-row draw, where he follows out a fast beginner and potentially could land leaders back. If that eventuates, an improved showing is definitely on the cards at a decent price.

Menangle

Best bet: Race 1, Number 4, Ilikemebettor
He let punters down last Saturday but butter up and you should be rewarded. He was just chasing from the outset last Saturday and by the time he got near the front, he was a tired horse. That was his first run since July 24, so there is significant room for improvement.

Next best: Race 2, Number 3, Muscle Factory
This is a quirky animal, but when he’s right, he’s very good, and he should be winning this. This horse resumes for team McCarthy off the back of a quiet trial here a couple of weeks ago, but I am not reading too much into that. Going off his race-day form, he’ll be a bit too good for this bunch.

Value: Race 8, Number 2, Bronski Belle
She’ll likely go around double figures and with that, she is definitely worth an each-way ticket. This horse has had no luck with draws in recent times but that changes here with a good inside draw to get a cheap run. She is a mare who is effective when getting a soft trip and dashing late, so she gets a good set-up.
