Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with Maryborough and Redcliffe getting my focus.

Maryborough

Best bet: Race 8, Number 4: Defensive Guy
He’s been excellent in two runs back from a break and third up, he can end the meeting on the right note for punters. Galloped and lost all chance first up, then last time, had to sit on speed, doing work, and stuck on really well. Should get a good run from the gate and is clearly the one to beat.

Next best: Race 2, Number 1: Beau Steele
Looks a race in two, but with the A1 run in transit, he’ll take holding out. He is a fast beginner and ideally, I’d love to see him hold the lead, but drawn next door is a likely first starter who I think leads and Beau Steele gets the sit. With race fitness and experience, hoping that helps at the business end.

Value: Race 6, Number 8: Rose Cooper
This mare hasn’t set the world on fire at her past couple of runs, but she comes up with an ideal trailing draw, and if she is able to land leaders back, she’s right in this race. Gets a slight drop in class on recent runs and if she can relax in the run, ideally behind the leader, she’ll be dangerous late.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 4, Number 2: Albion Ark
This horse tends to save his best for either Redcliffe or when he is able to lead. He’s at Redcliffe here, and drawn inside, he’ll lead, so this just looks a simple set up for him to bounce back into the winners’ list. His recent form at Albion Park just reads very well for a race like this. Keen.

Next best: Race 10, Number 3: Imajiva
He gets a great chance to break the maiden tag in the get out. Had a good sit behind the speed here last time out and battled on well albeit no match for dominant winner Dancing With My Ex. Drawn well, he’ll press forward and in a race with less depth, he’ll take beating.

Value: Race 1, Number 1: Aroona
Hoping we can get each way odds about this gelding. He’s racing really well at the moment and is knocking on the door to win one. Has had A1 runs in transit his past couple and been close up each time. He’ll get leaders back again from the draw and from there, only runs well.
