Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with my attention at Maryborough and Bathurst.
Best bet: Race 6, Number 4: Radiant Rose
She has only won the one raced but comes up with a good draw and should prove hard to beat in what looks a winnable race. Did work at Shepparton last time and battled on really well in defeat. If she can get cover and a decent drag into the race, she’ll be hard to hold out.
Next best: Race 7, Number 5: Payment Plan
First up in a year is the query with her, but if she’s ready to go, she has a bit too much class on these. Resumes for Emma Stewart and did a really good job when last in work. Two trials to get ready, the latest in fast time, so the grounding is there for her fresh.
Value: Race 2, Number 2: Van Niekirk
Hopefully we can get each way odds about this four-year-old. He tends to race best when leading and from the good draw, he gets the perfect set up to bounce back into positive form. Buried back on the pegs last time at Shepparton and couldn’t get involved. From the much better gate, he leads and will take running down.
Best Bet: Race 2, Number 10: Fasika
Should be too good for them. Former Kiwi that makes her Australian debut for Amanda Turnbull. Debuted in July at Addington when a strong winner in solid time. Now with Turnbull, looked sharp in a trial win and despite the second row draw, she has too much on these.
Next Best: Race 1, Number 7: Beta Jewel
Confident that her second-up run will be a second-up win. Resumed here last week when dong work to sit outside the speed and tried hard. Condition just gave way late. Better for the run, she has the gate speed to cross, find the front and from there, dominate proceedings.
Value: Race 5, Number 1: Gabby Sportstar
She’s a pretty solid 1×3 play at odds. Lochiel should win, but will be deep into the red. Gabby Sportstar isn’t blessed with gate speed, but I am hoping can hold a forward spot, no worse than three pegs, and from there, she’s in with a shout to finish top three.
