Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with Shepparton and Tabcorp Park Melton getting my focus.

Shepparton

Best bet: Race 1, Number 2, Delightful Nikky
Thought this was a tricky meeting to sort out with confidence so getting the best bet out of the way in the first via this filly, who has been contesting some strong races in recent times and for the most part has been far from disgraced. This race is very much on the weaker side, should press forward and prove hard to beat.

Next best: Race 2, Number 5, Patsy Valentine
Bit of speed drawn on the front line here, but she looks the best horse in the race on race day form. Ran in the Group ll Home Grown Final last start at Bendigo and ran a super race in defeat when fourth. If she can land on speed, ideally in front, and not spend too many petrol tickets, she’ll take beating.

Value: Race 4, Number 1, Atlantas
Definitely worth an each-way ticket in what looks an even race. He was big odds at Kilmore last time. Got back on the pegs but the gaps appeared and he loomed as a big threat at the top of the straight. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth, but still a game effort. Lands box seat from the draw and only runs well.

Best bet: Race 1, Number 3, Mister McLintock
Former Kiwi that didn’t raced in New Zealand but instead debuts here, and it will be a winning debut. Hasn’t had a trial in Australia but did trial back in August at Winton, a South Island track in NZ, and closed off strongly. Looks a good type and strikes a winnable race.

Next best: Race 3, Number 2, Lalibela
Bursting to win her first race and she gets a golden chance here. Has placed at her last four starts, last three being runner up. Last start led from the pole at Kilmore and was grabbed near the peg. Depth here isn’t as strong so think she leads comfortably and from the front, can dominate proceedings.

Value: Race 2, Number 1, La Bella Figura
Even race on paper with a few chances so I’m happy to back each way the likely leader. Yet to win in five starts but has shown good promise and one thing she does have is gate speed, so from the pole, she’ll have little trouble holding up and running a bold race – hopefully from the front.
