The 2021 Melbourne Cup is done and dusted and once-a-year punters are checking their betting slips to see if they’ve won.
It was a glorious day in Melbourne as fans were welcomed back trackside to the race that stops a nation.
The track was rated a Good 4 on the morning of the race just like last year and it promised to be a sprint as a result.
Short-priced favourite Incentivise appeared to have it won coming into the final bend but Verry Elleegant stormed home to cause an upset.
The trifecta and quinella bets are the toughest to get right but the most rewarding when you do.
The quinella requires a punter to pick the top two horses correctly in any order while the traditional trifecta requires all three finishers being picked in the correct order.
First: Verry Elleegant
Second: Incentivise
Third: Spanish Mission
Here are the winning quinella and trifecta bets.
Winning Quinella
Verry Elleegant and Incentivise in any order
Winning Trifecta
Verry Elleegant, Incentivise and Spanish Mission in the correct order.
You can also ‘box’ a trifecta which gives you a slightly better chance of winning if you want to ‘hedge’ your bets on the order.
One punter managed to do just that on PlayUp turning a $40 box trifecta (full cost of $240 for six combinations) into $17,448.
The Quinella paid out at $21.80.
The Exacta was $72.70
The Trifecta payout was $436.20
And if you managed to get the first four which had Floating Artist rounding out the top 4 you would have scored yourself a whopping $5413.50
