Cricket Australia has announced that a Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria, meant to start on Friday at the SCG, has been “postponed due to a possible COVID-19 case in the Victorian side”.

According to a CA statement, bowling all-rounder Will Sutherland “has returned a test result which requires further analysis.

“The Victorian team is currently self-isolating while this analysis and investigation takes place. Cricket Australia will provide further updates in due course.”

Test batter Marcus Harris and Australia A players Nic Maddinson and Scott Boland were not part of the Victorian squad for this match due to being selected for national duties this week.

Friday’s clash was set to be the third consecutive match between New South Wales and Victoria with the opponents having not been allowed to enter other states.

Sutherland, 22, has become a regular of the Victorian side since making his first-class debut in 2019. A former Australian under-19s representative, he plays for the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL.
