Oklahoma City Thunder’s Australian rookie Josh Giddey has been added to the NBA’s health and safety protocols.
Giddey becomes the fifth player on the team in the protocols, joining fellow guard Tre Mann, forwards Darius Bazley and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and centre Aleksej Pokusevski.
Oklahoma City’s Mark Daigneault on Tuesday also became the latest NBA coach to enter protocols, joining the Los Angeles Lakers’ Frank Vogel, Chicago’s Billy Donovan, Portland’s Chauncey Billups and Phoenix’s Monty Williams.
Overall Giddey is among 120 NBA players in the protocols on Tuesday.
The Australian is averaging 10.8 points along with team-leading totals in rebounds (7.1) and assists (6.1) in 30 games (all starts) this season.

On Sunday night, Giddey produced a most unusual double-double as he helped the Thunder to a 117-112 home win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Giddey did not score a single point but had ten assists and ten rebounds while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points and rookie Aaron Wiggins added a career-high 24.
It marked only the second time in NBA history – and first time in 50 years – that a player posted a double-double without scoring.
The 19-year-old was selected by Oklahoma City with the sixth overall pick of the 2021 NBA draft.
The Thunder begin a two-game road trip on Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings without their coach.
On Tuesday, Daigneault was ruled out of coaching the Thunder game against Sacramento.
Mike Wilks will be the acting coach for that game, the team said.
