There are two meetings to look at on Monday, with my focus at Maryborough and Globe Derby. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Maryborough

Best bet: Race 2, Number 5, Awesome Ollie
He’s the best on the program. It just looks like a really good map for him despite a tricky gate on face value. It’s not a front line blessed with great gate speed so he’ll lead, which is what he did at Echuca last time and just tired late. That was his first run in just under two months so with improvement to come, he’ll prove hard to run down.

Next best: Race 1, Number 5, Eva Mateo
Back a fair bit in grade/depth, this filly can bounce back. This horse was outclassed in the Super Series but was far from disgraced behind a star in Ladies In Red. She can really fly off the arm so she’ll find the top here and from in front, she’ll take a power of beating.

Value: Race 7, Number 11, Mah Mukker
This guy is well and truly a horse-for-course type. His recent form has been pretty plain but he does tend to save his best for Maryborough. His recent efforts haven’t exactly been something to jump up and down about, but if he brings his Maryborough form, he can run a much improved race at a big price.

Globe Derby

Best bet: Race 2, Number 3, Caesar Moment
The market will come big time for him despite being first up. He brings quite clearly the best form leading into this race, with tidy efforts in strong events when last in work, and he looked sharp in a recent trial win on the track. If he’s ready to go, he’ll win.

Next best: Race 3, Number 3, Final Round
If the run last Tuesday hasn’t busted him, he wins. That was his first run for the new camp and he was absolutely enormous in defeat. He was wide throughout and was entitled to run last but he ran third and was beaten by just three metres. Surely he won’t cop as hard of a run this time around and should be too good.

Value: Race 4, Number 1, No City Chick
Last time this mare won, rainbows were black and white. But she’s racing in okay form and finally comes up with an inside draw. This horse was far from disgraced last time out behind a pretty solid horse, Vindicate, running fifth. If she can use the inside gate, she only runs well at a price.
