After a period of silence, Paris Saint-Germain and representatives of Kylian Mbappe have reopened negotiations in regards to a potential new contract.

Any such agreement would extend the Frenchman’s stay beyond the summer, yet should there be any major breakdowns in communication, the chance of a major swoop by a cashed up European peer is not off the cards.

As soon as the football world hears of a star unhappy in their current surroundings, the vultures will swoop, looking for a feed.

Considering the size of this particular fish, everyone will be monitoring the progression of discussions between club and player, with the potential signing of one of the biggest names in football not off the cards should relationships sour.

Logic says Mbappe may well be too expensive to be poached and destined to remain a PSG player for the short-term future, yet should Cristiano Ronaldo do the unthinkable and join Lionel Messi in the French capital, I guess anything after that is possible.

Tottenham Hotspur appears to be the club where the next wave of Premier League transfer action will take place.

With Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli rumoured to be out of favour and Spurs keen on snaring the signature of Adama Traore, despite the constant insistences from Wolverhampton that the 25-year-old Spaniard will remain a Wolves player for now, it appears the London club is about to undergo significant change.

Manager Antonio Conte is no doubt behind some of the moves, with his personal preferences towards certain players and a clear mistrust in others beginning to come to the surface, change is certainly afoot.

However, recent talk has also suggested that the manager is gettable for other Premier League clubs, with Manchester United top of the list when it comes to paper talk and a club looking for a strong personality to guide it out of the current mire.

Frankly, such a choice remains nothing but underwhelming for the Italian, with neither club a serious threat to the top three at this stage of the season.

After much of Australia hoped that young attacking midfielder Riley McGree would join fellow Aussie Ange Postecoglou at Celtic, the 23-year-old has instead agreed to terms with English Championship side Middlesbrough for three and a half years.

The transfer fee is rumoured to have been £2.5 million, payable to North American parent club Charlotte FC.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic continues, with the entire saga becoming a little boring on a day-to-day basis.

Fiorentina appear to be playing games, knowing full well that their talisman will end up in the English Premier League sooner rather than later and a host of clubs interested in his services appear to be clouding any clear discussions and the steps required to allow such a move to take place.

At the moment, it just appears that there are simply too many moving pieces in play to allow a deal to be done; a perfect scenario for clubs like Newcastle United, PSG, Manchester City or Chelsea to pounce when the rest of the field has thrown its hands in the air in frustration.

And we have all seen that play out in years gone by. Watch this space.

It seems the rather disappointing period Donny van de Beek has suffered at Manchester United could be about to come to an end, with the 24-year-old disheartened and open to a move elsewhere to reignite what was once a promising career.

His parent club appear to be open to such a move, with three of Italy’s biggest keen to discuss such a prospect.

The fight between AC Milan, Inter and Juventus could be an enthralling one and the chance to see van de Beek playing regular football should be all the average fan needs to hope that such a deal can be done in the near future.

Despite Juventus preparing for the worst and the departure of Arthur Melo to Arsenal, club boss Max Allegri has indicated that the player himself has confirmed an intention to stay in Turin.

Where the financials fall on this one is anyone’s guess, yet the 25-year-old Brazilian will no doubt be given plenty of reasons to reconsider his decision.

Leeds is apparently in advanced negotiations to secure the signature of Brazilian Raphinha for an extended period, with the sharks circling should any glitches enter the negotiations.

All credit to Leeds for their proactivity and with the 25-year-old locked away for the next two to three seasons, their chances of remaining in the top flight are certainly improved.

With 16 days remaining in the winter transfer window, the action continues to heat up. Be sure to keep following The Roar to receive all the daily updates on rumours and deals throughout the remainder of January.
