Two meetings to look at on Sunday, with my focus at Devonport and Kilmore. Down below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 6, Number 1, Montana Storm
I think he’s the good thing on the night, provided he holds the lead. He has been a bit off since a sharp first up win, but this looks such a good race for him. Draws the pole, should have the gate speed to hold up and if he runs up to anything near his resumption, he’ll be too good for this lot.
Next-best: Race 5, Number 6, Im Lady Madeline
The start will be crucial. At the time of writing, there were several dual acceptors that were down to run at Launceston on Friday night, so whether they back up here, not sure. Either way, I am banking on this girl pinging over from the gate, leading and taking a power of beating. If she leads, she wins.
Value: Race 1, Number 8, Mezereon
Her manners have been a bit scratchy in both career runs, which worries me somewhat on a track like Devonport, but she has more upside than most and has a good trailing draw. Did plenty of work at Carrick last start and battled on well when third. If she does everything right and gets the suck run, she’s a live chance.
Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Lady Lani
Just looks a perfect set-up for this mare to bounce back into the winners list. She is a mare who races best when getting a sit behind the speed and launching late. That is what she should get here, trailing the leader, and with Chris Alford steering, she’s the best on the card.
Next-best: Race 3, Number 4, Joshua Richard
This guy has been excellent in four Australian runs since arriving from New Zealand and this looks to be his race. Massive in defeat at Geelong last time after copping an early check, and really, he should have won had he not copped the check. He looks the leader and in front, he’s the most likely winner.
Value: Race 5, Number 1, Vin Dan
Complete throw at the stumps here. Resumes for Maryanne Laffan after a pretty ordinary ending to last prep in the Spring, with several plain efforts. Been given a good break, and although he resumes without a public trial, he does find a very thin race, and from behind the leader, he’s in with a shout at odds.
