The latest news around Newcastle United’s attempts to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos suggests that the club could well need to offer in excess of £35 million should they hope to acquire his services.

The player has recently submitted a transfer request and played the last two fixtures for Sevilla, yet Carlos’ papers have apparently been stamped in Spain, with a move to the United Kingdom almost certain should the two clubs be able to align the numbers.

Tottenham’s interest in Adama Traore has apparently brought them within touching distance of signing the Wolves defender.

After initially offering a figure deemed as insufficient by Wolverhampton for the 26-year-old Spaniard, a subsequent second offer appears to have hit the mark and serious negotiations around the finer details of the contract are now taking place.

Barring outside interest or a change of heart from the parent club, expect to see Traore in the white of Tottenham in the short-term future, in a move sure to buoy the London fans.

It appears Ralf Rangnick has been granted at least one his three wishes when it comes to off-loading players problematic to the plight of Manchester United.

Sevilla, potentially with some of the funds freed up from the impending departure of Diego Carlos, has reportedly all but secured the services of Anthony Martial on loan for the remainder of the season, in a deal that will see the Spanish club cough up the full wages of the 26-year-old Frenchman’s contract.

While not an ideal financial outcome for the suits at Old Trafford, the rumours of Martial’s poor attitude and destructive influence in the dressing room, alongside fellow trouble makers Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba, makes the move a potential winner for United should the coach’s observations prove to be accurate in the long term.

In the latest twist in the Dusan Vlahovic saga that has gripped world football over the past 26 days, Juventus has apparently sought to swoop at the eleventh hour and steal away the immensely talented Serb, with Arsenal seemingly holding all the aces as the end of the transfer window approached.

A €70 million offer may well be enough to torpedo all others, should the Italian giants find the funds to match the demands of Fiorentina.

While the negotiations around Vlahovic appear to have lingered painfully over the last few weeks, it potentially says all that needs to be said about one of the most promising players in European football, with multiple parties expressing interest and the chance to pounce at the last minute now presenting itself to the bigger and more affluent clubs.

With the entire football world seemingly sure that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s time at Arsenal is all but up, a further twist in the tale has developed, with the player now attempting to dictate the destination to which he would like to be assigned.

This seems a little arrogant from afar, with interest from Al Nassr in Saudia Arabia deemed beneath the failed Premier League striker.

His preference for European play reeks a little of beggars not being choosers and should no Premier League club come to the party and express interest in a player who has not really delivered on the big stage on a regular basis, one wonders what his thinking will be when it comes to deciding on his next football home.

In other news, AC Milan remain very keen on Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga, with a loan deal their preference at this stage of his career.

Spurs seem keener to off-load the defender on a more permanent basis and a few more inter-club meetings may be required before the 22-year-old Englishman finds himself abroad. It could perhaps be the best thing for Tanganga’s career, with his time in London not bringing out the best in him and so much growth and development in his game still pending.

In stunning Premier League coaching news, Watford appears to be on the cusp of signing Roy Hodgson as its new coach after jettisoning Claudio Ranieri earlier in the week, with the club sitting 19th on the ladder.

Ranieri lasted just three months and the 74-year-old Hodgson must surely be a short term option for the club; seeking to somehow escape the drop despite all the logic suggesting they are destined to experience it.

The action is hotting up as the days go by and the biggest deals stand to be done over the course of the next week. Be sure to stay up to date with all the rumours and signings at the Roar.com.au, as the January transfer window approaches a crescendo.
