Young Pakistan paceman Mohammad Hasnain has been suspended from bowling, with his action found to be illegal after he was reported while playing in the Big Bash League.

Hasnain’s was reported by umpire Gerard Abood after bowling for Sydney Thunder against Adelaide Strikers on January 2.

Unable to undergo testing in Australia before returning home, the 21-year-old has since done biomechanical testing at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) approved facility in Lahore with his bowling action determined to be illegal.

It means Hasnain, a member of Pakistan’s white-ball team, is unlikely to be available to play against Australia who are scheduled to tour Pakistan in March.

He has also been banned suspended from the Pakistan Super League, where he was playing for Quetta Gladiators.

The PCB will now work with the paceman to fix his action and Hasnain will have to apply for a reassessment of his action before being cleared to return to international cricket.

“The PCB today received a formal and detailed report from Cricket Australia on Mohammad Hasnain’s assessment test, which stated his elbow extension for his good length delivery, full length delivery, slow bouncer and bouncer exceeded the 15-degree limits,” the PCB said in a statement.

“The PCB has discussed the report with its own bowling experts and is confident that the problem can be resolved.

“The PCB will now appoint a bowling consultant who will work with Mohammad Hasnain so that he can rectify his bowling action and be ready for a reassessment.”
