TWO GOOD! Zahra wins back-to-back Melbourne Cups on Without a Fight as three horses pull up lame
Without a Fight completed the rare Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double on Tuesday as star jockey Mark Zahra went back-to-back in the big one after…
Opinion
With confidence high after consecutive winning weeks, we head to Rosehill this week for a card mixed with high quality autumn preparations and mid-graders finishing off summer campaigns.
The last meeting at Rosehill featured a pretty savage rails/leader bias. I’ll naturally favour on-pacers anyway but for the sake of a good day’s racing, here’s hoping it plays fairly.
Best bet: Race 7 – 8 Mightybeel (four units at $4.20)
Boxes are ticked all over the place with Mightybeel. He had a breather over Christmas and gets out over a preferred trip (two from four at 1900 metres) second up.
His runs in Q4 last year were consistently top notch. Tommy Berry on top is another plus.
Apparently he opened at $9, I well and truly missed that, but I’m still going hard at the current price considering I’ve marked him at $2.05.
Best value: Race 3 – 11 Sally Pops (one unit at $21)
With no weight on her back, I am happy to nibble at Sally Pops in the Midway.
She bolted in at lower grade before Christmas in Canberra. Since then she’s been middling but with excuses.
Fingers crossed she’s ridden positively and luck is with her.
Sydney racing selections
Race 1 – 18 Shen Gui (1 unit at $9.50)
Race 2 – 3 Mr Mosaic (2 units at $4)
Race 3 – 11 Sally Pops (1 unit at $21)
Race 4 – 3 Expat (1 unit at $3.20)
Race 5 – 6 Able Willie (1 unit at $3.30)
Race 6 – 14 Ebhaar (1 unit at $10)
Race 7 – 8 Mightybeel (4 units at $4.20)
Race 8 – 4 Hilal (1 unit at $12)
Race 9 – 11 Matowatakpe (1 unit at $6)
Race 10 – 3 Dajraan (2 units at $2.70)
Flemington Race 7 – 1 Nature Strip (2 units at $2.70)
This is a cracking race with the top-liners. I often mention how you need to beat the best to be the best.
Quite simply, Nature Strip wears all the belts at the moment. At nine from 15 at 1000 metres and great fresh and Flemington stats, he’s the one to beat.
I’m a huge Home Affairs fan but risking at the short trip, Gytrash looks over the odds to me, Eduardo always flies fresh and Profiteer could step up if ready.
It is an exciting day. We’re getting serious now. Go well and good punting.
