The West Tigers are somehow begging the season performing worse than another woeful year in 2021.

To add to their poor 0-2 start, two of their top players, Daine Laurie and James Roberts, were reportedly spotted in a popular Newcastle pub on Saturday night playing poker machines.

The media have certainly over-reacted, and you defiantly cannot point this incident to their loss on Sunday. It was two players who couldn’t have won by themselves, and the other 15 players obviously should also take responsibility for their most recent defeat.

If they would have won, this wouldn’t have been as concerning and the drama in the media wouldn’t be as high.

The pair weren’t drinking, and they left by 10om. We shouldn’t be thinking much of it at all.

It’s the fact that they loss and the club’s recent history has been the worst in the league, as they haven’t made the finals since 2011.

They’re a struggling team, which changes the whole situation.

If this was the Melbourne Storm, there wouldn’t be talks as dramatic as this. In fact, with the structure of Melbourne, this would never happen.

The Tigers don’t look like going anywhere anytime soon and if their season replicates their first two weeks, then they could reach rock bottom.

There wasn’t a day during the ’20 and ’21 seasons we didn’t see the Brisbane Broncos in the paper and we are just as familiar with the Tigers’ struggles.

In the last decade, the effort and intensity simply hasn’t been on show. In stages throughout campaigns, they had high hopes of ending their finals footy drought but this would come crashing down and they would just fall into the bottom eight.

An interesting argument brought up recently is when they eventually win a premiership, no one on the current roster will still be available. I just can’t see it happening with this playing group. They are so unorganised and just absolute mess.

Tim Sheens was supposed to turn the club around. It doesn’t matter how much one man means to a club’s history, it’s a team effort that wins games and premierships.

To add to this, I don’t think it’s Madge’s fault. He has tried so hard to fire his players up and tried so many different sides and combinations, but most don’t seem to succeed.

The pokies night was less of a deal than people made it to be, however if you’re a side that’s playing as poor as the Tigers, you should expect to cop it for little things like this.
