There was only one problem with the incredible scenes that saw Lance Franklin slot his 1000th career goal at the SCG on Friday night.

Channel Seven’s camerawork.

The broadcaster has been on the receiving end of fierce criticism, after the iconic shot, likely to be replayed endlessly in coming years, was mostly blocked by a fan’s head.

The reaction from the football public was swift and brutal, with the network savaged for having ‘botched’ one of modern football’s most celebrated moments, and their use of the ‘worst camera angle in history’.

Among them were only partially tongue in cheek calls for Seven, which has been broadcasting the AFL consecutively since 2007 and has a long affiliation with the sport, to have their licence stripped by the league.

While commentator James Brayshaw won praise for his understated call of the historic moment, Seven had few other winners with the fans on the night.

Rival broadcaster Fox Footy, however, jumped on the opportunity to take a cheeky jab, attempting to source the identity of the fan at the centre of the furore.

Seven should take comfort, though, in the fact they will have a chance to make amends the next time someone kicks 1000 go- oh, wait.
