The Repco Supercars series hit the track at Tasmania this weekend for the second round of the 2022 championship.
Out of the three races held, Shane van Gisbergen swept all three races and took the championship lead, but the races didn’t come without their drama.
After an opening lap crash between Jack Le Brocq and Andre Heimgartner, the field was re-energised after the red flag came out to make repairs to the tyre wall at turn 7.
Battling for a top 10 spot, Cam Waters and Tim Slade endured in a drag race down the curved back straight, then making contact at 265 km/h.
Slade told Supercars later that day that he thought the move was done, before Waters essentially pushed Tim Slade’s #3 Cooldrive Mustang off the track at high speeds.
Slade’s car lifted into the air for a brief moment, before coming back down onto all fours, spinning across the track and out the other side of the gravel trap.
Slade slammed Cam Waters for the unnecessary accident.
“Just a bonehead move… Maybe worry a little less about us and worry about everyone else.”
Waters copped a penalty for the incident and finished 17th in the race, while Slade recovered to finish 15th.
Supercars will be back at Melbourne for the first time since COVID, on April 7-10, joining the Formula 1 at the Australian Grand Prix.
