Two meetings to look at on Friday, with my focus at Albion Park and Maryborough. Down below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race 2, Number 2, Betterthandiamonds

She gets her chance to get back into the winners list. Hasn’t been helped with gates in recent times, but that all changes here with gate two and with early speed, she should find the front. Race is lacking any real depth, so she gets a great chance to get into the winners list.

Next-best: Race 3, Number 1, Pelosi

She should be winning, barring bad luck. Showed promise in NZ before going to Menangle in search of a Ladyship Mile berth and didn’t get there but did win impressively last time out. She looks so well-placed in a race like this and from the pole, she should lead and win.

Value: Race 6, Number 8, Good As It Gets

Such an ideal map for this gelding. Odds on pop draws the pole and should lead. This guy should land leaders back and from there, I think he only runs well. Didn’t have much luck from a tricky gate last time out but he stuck on well in defeat. He’s going to be dangerous from the box seat.

Maryborough

Best bet: Race 6, Number 2, Goodtime Mach

Progressive four-year-old that can win again. Overcame a tricky draw to win last start at Ballarat. Nothing flash on the clock but liked the way he found the line to get the job done. He does have gate speed so he can lead and in a thin race, I’m keen on his chances.

Next-best: Race 1, Number 3, Smooth Techy

Hoping sustained speed from the front can come to the fore. She worked hard in the run to find the front at Cranbourne last time but found plenty under pressure and fended them off for a strong win. She looks like she has the early speed to find the front and leading, that is when she races best.

Value: Race 8, Number 1, Clem McArdle

I think this gelding is worth a speck at a price. Too good for them two back at Boort before going to Ballarat where he had a suck run on the pegs and battled away okay when second, beaten three metres. He should get a lovely suck run again and at big odds, I can back him 1×3.
