Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with my focus at Shepparton and Bathurst.

Shepparton

Best Bet: Race 8, Number 1, Classic Mix Up
She’s a smart filly and if she can hold the lead, she just wins. Just couldn’t muster the early speed to hold the lead and the race shape was against when a game second at Cobram. Trialled up like a jet leading into that debut hence the $1.20 SP. Barring bad luck, she wins.

Next best: Race 9, Number 3, Yankee Lover
Talented gelding that will win if he steps away cleanly from the tapes. Resumed at Echuca and was beaten comfortably when third to Marengo Bay (FYI, watch R9 Ballarat last Friday night and tell me something wasn’t doing there). That form just reads so well for a race like this.

Value: Race 4, Number 1, Fantasy Beach
His winning strike rate is nothing to jump up and down about, but he finally comes up with a map to get run of the race and bounce back. He has had little luck with gates in recent times but he comes up with the pole. He should land leaders back and take beating at odds.

Best bet: Race 4, Number 8, Beneath The Shadow
Drawn outside the front row, but he has a bit on these. Ran good time when winning at Menangle two back before going to Newcastle where he was outstanding from a wide gate to lead and ran them ragged in good time again. He’s progressive and can keep winning at this level.

Next best: Race 2, Number 6, Bettor Keppel
He has to step up here, but confident he can do it successfully. Led throughout and spanked them here last time out, albeit the depth behind him was thin. That can be said about this field and despite drawing wide, if he finds the front he will take some beating once again.

Value: Race 8, Number 9, The Handsome One
It’s a race full of plodders to close out the meeting. This guy is indeed one of them but he gets a good trailing draw to be strong late. Generally I find with these kind of races, they overdo it in front and set it up for those off the pace. Hoping that eventuates so he gets last look.
