There are two meetings to look at on Thursday, with Redcliffe and Ballarat getting my attention. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 1, Number 9, Pampelonne
This mare should win if she is ready to go. This horse is a former Kiwi that had three runs in NSW for Matt Rue and didn’t really fire. She now finds herself with Grant Dixon and her two trials at this track to get ready have been strong. This horse finds a really thin race and despite the tricky gate, she’s clearly the one to beat.

Next best: Race 7, Number 4, Just Rokin
I am hoping this mare can go gate to wire. This horse raced here last Saturday where she did indeed do that, leading from gate two and giving nothing else a look in, winning impressively. She’ll find the front once again and that is a great spot to be at this track. This horse is hard to beat.

Value: Race 4, Number 1, Patchwork Jet
He’s a great each-way bet in a tricky race. This horse is a seven-year-old that hasn’t been far away of late despite drawing tricky gates. That all changes here, coming up with the pole draw, where he should land a forward spot, ideally behind the leader. And from there, he’ll be dangerous.

Ballarat

Best bet: Race 8, Number 4, Flash Jimmy
This horse is a quality youngster that I am confident can resume a winner. This horse did really good work as a juvenile last season, including some strong efforts at Group 1 level. I loved the way he went in a recent trial and with good early speed, he finds the front and should take a power of beating.

Next best: Race 7, Number 13, Kowalski Analysis
Class gets him home. This horse is a high quality five-year-old that resumes for Matty Craven, having not raced since the winter when doing some good things in Brisbane. I loved the way he went in a Hamilton trial win and actually beat Flash Jimmy in the trial, so if this guy wins, bet with confidence on Flash Jimmy.

Value: Race 6, Number 2, Fun On Rum
He’ll run a bold race in front should he able to hold up. He was on speed at Melton last time out and battled away okay, but the depth there was far stronger than what he faces here. He has the gate speed to hold up and in front, he’s worth an each-way speck.
