Australia will have its biggest men’s cricket tour since the 2019 Ashes series with 34 players named for three formats for upcoming matches against Sri Lanka.

The Aussies will play three T20 Internationals, five One-Day Internationals and two Test matches plus tour matches for Australia A in Kandy, Colombo Galle and Hambantota from early June to mid-July.

While Australia chose to rest many stars for the backend of the Pakistan series, there’s been no such liberties taken against Sri Lanka.

Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Wade will all return to the short-formats.

However, Adam Zampa will miss the tour for the birth of his first child while Test captain Pat Cummins will sit out the T20 matches in preparation for the ODI and Test Series.

With a host of big stars returning it means some unfortunate news for Ben McDermott who misses out.

McDermott scored his maiden century against Pakistan in an ODI last month but hasn’t made the squad. He will play county cricket for Hampshire instead.

Despite missing out on a central contract, Jhye Richardson has made the T20 squad.

As for the Test team, Marcus Harris’ international career is officially in limbo after he was cut from the squad.

However, the good news for Harris is that he’ll get his chance to shine alongside the Australia team with an Australia A squad touring Sri Lanka at the same time.

“There are a several players returning to respective squads combined with an Australia A tour running in parallel to the white ball series,” Chair of National selectors George Bailey said.

“It’s incredibly exciting to have an Australia A component which offers the further flexibility and opportunity for players to be available for and cross over into all squads. That could be from a Test or white ball preparation perspective or an opportunity to impress at an international level.
