There are two meetings to look at on Sunday, with Parkes at Forbes and Swan Hill getting my attention. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Parkes at Forbes

Best bet: Race 8, Number 1, Eagle Commander
He’s quite clearly the best on the card. It’s a significant drop in depth for him but the big, big tick is drawing gate one. And with his gate speed, he’s the one they have to beat, especially on a tight track like Parkes. Recent form is nothing to jump up and down about, but the map looks ideal for him to bounce back into the winners list.

Next best: Race 2, Number 1, Africana
Her best sees her win and I’ll gamble on her producing it. I was quite keen on her chances at this track last start but she didn’t use the gate to advantage and failed to fire a shot in a plain effort. At her best, she should find the lead comfortably and she would just be too good for them if she’s right to go.

Value: Race 6, Number 2, Harley James
This horse is a great each-way speck from a map perspective. He’s ten years of age, but is maintaining a healthy zest for racing. He’s drawn quite poorly in recent runs, but he gets a barrier to use, likely landing leaders back. From that position, he will only run well at a decent price.

Swan Hill

Best bet: Race 7, Number 3, Classic Mix Up
She is becoming quite costly from a betting perspective but she finds a very thin race here and she wins. This horse trialled up like a jet prior to her debut and she hasn’t lived up to the hype. But despite that, she hasn’t been far away. This horse should find the front and prove too sharp.

Next best: Race 3, Number 6, Loyola Rocknrolla
He’s flying and despite drawing wide, I am quite keen on his chances. He raced on a couple of occasions during the recent Mildura Cup Carnival and ran very well, possessing good gate speed. This is why I like him here and I like the booking of Jack Laugher, who is an aggressive driver. He’ll drive like he is the best horse in the race and he is.

Value: Race 1, Number 1, All Good
He’s worth a 1×3 bet in the opener. He hasn’t been too far away of late in recent runs but hasn’t been helped by bad gates, where he’s had to do too much work. He has a good gate to hold a forward spot, likely landing leaders back, and from there, he’ll only run well at a price.
