Opinion
Greetings punters, we head closer to Brisbane this week for the Scone standalone meet, one for the bucket list from me, looks treacherous though with accommodation on the outskirts making it a long walk after the last with a few ambers under the belt.
Anyway, the weather is same same, and worse in Brisbane, with a heavy 8 for the Friday meeting potentially being slightly better on the back up with dry expected.
My thought process for the day is looking to horses racing with a reason, I’ve given +1s to horses trained locally in the Highway and then horses Brisbane-bound in some of the features across the card. The way my numbers stack Jay Ford’s accountant could be busy backing up from a double last week.
Best bet: Race 8 – 15 Brookspire (3 units @ $7)
Forgiving the miss from Brookspire at Hawkesbury, she started $2.40 that day, is statistically better second-up, gets to the pet 1400 trip and gets the biggest weight drop of the horses from that race. She’s bolted in on a Heavy 8 at the Kenso a prep back. Big overs.
Best value: Race 9 – 5 Vulpine (1 unit @ $21 – subject to change)
Note the favourite is likely to run earlier so would expect around $12
Second in the Magic Millions mares race giving weight to a subsequent Group 1 winner, similar placings prior behind Quantico and Andermatt, she loves the wet and can find a spot if Jay does the right thing from the wide alley. Expect her outside Malkovich and travelling, this sort of race is right in her wheelhouse.
Scone racing selections
Race 1 – 7 The Dramatist (1 unit @ $3.80)
Race 2 – 11 Outlook (1 unit @ $10)
Race 3 – 1 Military Mission (2 units @ $2.50)
Race 4 – 12 Capital Elle (1 unit @ $26)
Race 5 – 16 And We Danced (1 unit @ $8.50)
Race 6 – 15 Rubinocchi (1 unit @ $17)
Race 7 – 4 Andermatt (2 units @ $2.10)
Race 8 – 15 Brookspire (3 units @ $7)
Race 9 – 5 Vulpine (1 unit @ $21)
Race 10 – 12 American President (1 unit @ $8)
Anything else? 19 and 20 in the last (two emergencies as of Friday night) are both interesting, Toto is 70/1 and gets in well, Adelaide’s Light is 60/1 and yes, he’s been gelded since his last go.
Around the grounds, with the weather in Brisbane apparently the track has held up ok, but surely Shelby is in the game now.
There’s some Kiwis over here for the carnival that are worth a look across the card as well. The SA Derby looks a race between the two faves.
Good luck and good punting.
