Brisbane are reportedly poised to land gun fullback Reece Walsh, who is set to return to the Broncos barely a year after leaving Red Hill.

The young star requested a release from the New Zealand Warriors on Tuesday and has been given permission to negotiate with only the Broncos as part of that release, according to News Corp.

It follows wide reports earlier that Canberra fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad told teammates he wouldn’t be at the club in 2023, after penning a deal with the Warriors despite having a year left to run on his current contract.

Walsh, 19, is contracted with the Warriors for 2023 and has an option for 2024, having been granted an early release from Brisbane in April 2021.

He’s also been repeatedly linked with a move to the Dolphins, as the NRL’s newest club remains desperate for a marquee signing.

Walsh has played 30 games with the Warriors since he debuted for them last season.

Nicoll-Klokstad’s release would be on compassionate grounds, having a young family in his home country of New Zealand.

It also avoids an awkward situation for the Raiders at fullback, with 20-year-old sensation Xavier Savage impressing in an extended run in the No.1 jersey in recent weeks.

Nicoll-Klokstad has been with the Raiders since 2019, playing a crucial role in their grand final run in his first season.

He began his career with the Warriors, playing two games for them in 2017.

The 26-year-old has played 73 games for the Raiders, scoring 30 tries.
