It was a case of so near yet so far for the Wallabies who lost the battle for the Ella-Mobbs trophy in a 21-17 defeat in the decider at the SCG. Here is how the Australian players performed in Sydney according to your votes in our DIY player ratings poll.
Marika Koroibete proved why he was voted man of the series in a losing side. Koroibete made a number of barnstorming runs and left England defenders in his wake.
His performance in a tough night for the home side showed just what an asset he is to the team and he received the second most number of 8 ratings with 33% of the vote.
While Koroibete narrowly edged Tom Wright for the average score, Wright had more give him the most common rating of 8 with 37% of respondents.
Wright was a beast on the right side of the field and his interplay passing was one of the highlights of the night.
Samu Kerevi also had another outstanding match and was just behind Koroibete and Wright with an average score of 7.12.
Of course, when you lose, the blowtorch is intensified on key positions. Reece Hodge wasn’t even selected in the squad before the series and had the task at fullback among a string of injuries.
He received an average of 4.92 and a fair few Wallabies were under the 5 average with dropped ball and turnovers proving to be costly.
While it’s a disappointing lost chance for Australia, going toe-to-toe with the old enemy despite all the challenges was admirable.
The team can now take a few weeks to dust themselves off and focus on the start to the Rugby Championship in Argentina on August 7 AEST.
