Erling Haaland has scored a hat-trick for the second straight game as Manchester City thrashed Nottingham Forest 6-0 in the Premier League.

Liverpool kept touch with the leaders thanks to a 98th-minute winner from summer arrival Fabio Carvalho at Anfield.

It was a disappointing result for the visitors, who hit the lead in the 38th minute through a goal from Swedish striker Alex Isak, who only arrived at the club on Monday.

Liverpool hit back in the 61st minute through Roberto Firmino, before collecting just their second win of the season in injury time.

Despite the win, Man City are still trailing Arsenal at the top of the table after the Gunners beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Wednesday to maintain their 100 per cent start to the new season.

All Haaland’s goals came in the first half at Etihad Stadium, before Joao Cancelo scored a fourth and Julian Alvarez added two more — his first goals for City since his off-season arrival from River Plate – in the second half.

It was the champions’ fourth win in five games of their title defence but they’re still two points behind Arsenal, who’ve won five from five.

Haaland’s three goals against Crystal Palace on Saturday came in a 19-minute burst in the second half and he did all his damage against Forest in the space of 26 minutes before halftime, taking his record to a league-leading nine goals.

Haaland outmuscled his marker to poke home a cross from Phil Foden in the 12th minute and then tapped into an unguarded net in the 23rd after Foden was tackled by Neco Williams just as the winger was about to shoot. By that point, Haaland had only had four touches of the ball.

His hat-trick goal came in the 38th and again it was from close range when he nodded home from a central position after John Stones headed the ball back across the face of goal.

At the Emirates Stadium, Gabriel Jesus’s predatory instincts and a left-footed finish from Gabriel Martinelli ensured Arsenal’s victory.

The Brazilian pair scored either side of the break to hand Arsenal a deserved triumph as they dominated the match.

Jesus opened the scoring in the 31st minute with Martinelli grabbing the 77th-minute winner, three minutes after Villa had equalised through substitute Douglas Luiz, who scored directly from a corner.

Liverpool were left celebrating a remarkable comeback win at Anfield, with Fabio Carvalho scoring the winner in the ninth minute of stoppage time with the last kick of the game as they rallied to beat Newcastle 2-1.

In the London derby, Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at West Ham left them third in the table on 11 points.

Tomas Soucek earned the Hammers a point after an own goal from Thilo Kehrer, who diverted Harry Kane’s low cross into the net, had given the visitors the lead.

Tottenham also had a penalty overturned by a VAR check.

In the night’s other game, Bournemouth began life without Scott Parker with a battling point as Wolves’ lengthy Premier League winless streak was extended by a goalless draw at Vitality Stadium.

The managerless Cherries, led by interim boss Gary O’Neil, produced a resolute response to a tumultuous few days which saw Parker sacked on Monday in the aftermath of a record-equalling 9-0 humiliation away to Liverpool.
