The NRL grand final is one of the big betting days of the year, and this year’s Battle of the West decider between the Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels promises to be as big as ever.
Here’s your guide to the odds for some of the major markets on the AFL’s season finale. Please note all odds are as of Friday, September 30th at midday (AEST), and are thanks to our good friends at PlayUp.
As always, remember to gamble responsibly if you are having a bet on the grand final.
Head-to-head winner
The Panthers are overwhelming favourites for this one: they start at $1.36, which is about as short as there has been for a GF in recent memory. The Eels, seeking their first Premiership since 1986, are as far out as $3.20.
In the other games, the Newcastle Knights are slightly further out, though still short money, at $1.42 to take out the NRLW Premiership, with Parramatta $2.90 in the Women’s odds, while in the State Championship, the odds are again firmly with Penrith.
They start at $1.34 to complete the first portion of the sweep – they also won in the under-20s – by beating Norths Devils, the Q Cup champs, who are as high as $3.30.
Clive Churchill medallist
Again, it’s hard to think of a time where one player started as short for a Clive Churchill Medal as Nathan Cleary does on Sunday. He’s $3.
If you’re looking for value, Dylan Edwards is the next best at $7.50, followed by the first Eel, halfback Mitchell Moses at $7.50.
It might be worth a shout lower down the list. The odds on Dylan Brown, for example, to win the Clive Churchill Medal are $19 and Shaun Lane, the best on ground plenty of times this year for Parramatta, at $21.
If you think the game will be close, then James Fisher-Harris is the best priced prop at $23, with any of the Parra middles, Junior Paulo, Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Ryan Matterson, all on $34.

First try-scorer
It’ll come as no surprise that Panthers wingers top the first try scorer options, with Brian To’o at $8.50 and Charlie Staines, the Forbes Ferrari, at $9.
Perhaps more surprisingly, the next best at Panthers centres, with Izack Tago and Stephen Crichton sharing third billing with Maika Sivo, the best placed Eel, all on $12 for first dab.
Back-rowers are always a strong shout in a Grand Final and if you like them, you’ll get Viliame Kikau on $14, Isiah Papali’i on $23 and Shaun Lane as high as $29.
