Darwin theory dictates only the strongest survive - Arthur on the rocks at Eels after embarrassing capitulation
Gold Coast don’t get credit for doing too many things right but when it comes to sacking a coach mid-season they are the gold…
The NRL grand final is upon us, with the big game at Homebush seeing the Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels lock horns.
Check out The Roar’s full guide to ensure you don’t miss any of the action on a jam-packed day.
Please note that as the ACT, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania all began daylight saving time at 2am on Sunday morning, Queensland will be one hour behind the Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) for the grand final. All times below are in AEDT unless noted otherwise.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm (AEDT) or 6:30pm (AEST) for Queensland viewers, but the day’s many festivities will get going long before the Panthers and Eels begin to slug it out.
The NRL have in recent times begun to adhere more strictly to that start time, having become famous in the past for heavily delayed kick-offs for both grand finals and State of Origin events.
The gates will open 1pm (AEDT) – so get there early and enjoy all the action in the lead-up to the actual game.
The NRL State Championship Grand Final Kick Off is at 1:15pm (AEDT). These matches will be broadcast live and free on Channel Nine around the country, as well as on Fox League and Kayo Sports.
Then at 3:55pm we have the NRLW Telstra Women’s Premiership Grand Final between the Newcastle Knights and the Parramatta Eels.
At 6:30 pm (AEDT), the Pre Game show begins, which includes the grand final entertainment. This year’s entertainment is headlined by Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes, with friends including ARIA-winning singer-songwriters, the mighty DIESEL and special guest Josh Teskey, alongside award-winning Indigenous singer-songwriter Emma Donovan.
Break-out Eurovision 2022 star Sheldon Riley will bring his spectacular style to Accor Stadium with a cinematic and unique performance. Australian hip-hop legends Bliss n Eso (featuring JOY.) will perform their hit, “Moments”, paying tribute to the game’s retiring players.
After that, it’s time for the main event. After the national anthem, the match will begin at 7:30pm (AEDT). It will be broadcast exclusively on Nine and its streaming service, 9Now.
At approximately 9:20pm (AEDT), assuming no extra time, the match will finish and be followed by the post-match presentation. This includes the Clive Churchill Medal, awarded to the best player on the ground, and of course the lifting of the Provan-Summons Trophy.
