Dragons forward Jack de Belin is expected to make his long-awaited return from a calf injury from the bench in Wollongong.

Besieged coach Anthony Griffin confirmed the veteran former NSW representative was progressing well and was on track to play for the first time this season as St George Illawarra try to avoid a three-game losing streak.

Dragons five-eighth Jayden Sullivan has been fined $2000 for tripping and dangerous contact within a minute of each other in the second half of the heavy defeat to Cronulla.

Dolphins duo Sean O’Sullivan and Tesi Niu face lengthy stints on the sidelines as the new club licks its wounds after their bruising Brisbane derby against the Broncos.

Scans have confirmed O’Sullivan ruptured his pectoral tendon in the loss last Friday and will miss 3-4 months while Niu, who suffered medial damage to his knee early in the match but bravely played on, will miss at least four weeks. Veteran hooker Kodi Nikorima has been cleared of a facial fracture after a heavy knock left him bloodied after just three minutes of game time.

Manly five-eighth Josh Schuster has been sidelined for the second time this year with Cooper Johns recalled to the side to face Newcastle in Mudgee on Saturday.

Schuster, who missed Round 1 due to a calf injury, has been ruled out this weekend due to a thigh strain with Johns again replacing him in the halves alongside Daly Cherry-Evans.

A Manly representative said Schuster’s return-to-play timeline had yet to be decided but that the club would know more in the coming days.

Young centre Tolu Koula underwent knee surgery on Tuesday after he suffered an MCL injury in the 13-12 oss to South Sydney on Saturday night and is expected to be out up to six weeks.

Manly hooker Lachlan Croker, who has been battling a shoulder injury, is a concern but has been named although Karl Lawton could replace him again if he’s ruled out by game day.

Parramatta and the Roosters will be without suspended stars for Thursday night’s Round 5 blockbuster but all eyes will be on young centre Joseph Suaalii after he signed a multimillion-dollar deal to switch to rugby at the end of next year.

The heavyweight clash to kick off the round at Allianz Stadium will be Suaalii’s first outing since news of his Wallabies contract was announced last Saturday.

His centre partner Joey Manu is out after accepting a one-game suspension for a grade-two careless high tackle in the 20-18 win over South Sydney before last week’s bye with Drew Hutchison getting a call-up.

The Eels will be without co-captain Junior Paulo for two matches after he was cited for a high shot in the final minute of the golden-point win over Penrith. Paulo will also sit out next week’s game against the Wests Tigers after he entered an early guilty plea on Tuesday.

Eels winger Maika Sivo received a grade-one dangerous contact charge for his hit on Zac Hosking in the shadows of halftime and has paid a $3000 fine given his prior record.

Canterbury fan favourite Josh Reynolds will make his first appearance for the club since 2017 after being named on the bench for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.

After stints with Wests Tigers and in the Super League, the veteran five-eighth was given a train-and-trial deal in the off-season and has worked his way back into contention for an NRL berth, getting a call-up after utility Fa’amanu Brown suffered a dislocated elbow in the loss at Auckland.

Reynolds played 138 games for the Bulldogs between 2011 and 2017, mostly at five-eighth, and was a member of their 2012 and 2014 grand final teams.

Raiders star Jack Wighton has copped a two-week ban and a heavy fine after being charged twice for incidents in Sunday’s loss to the Knights in Newcastle.

Wighton was charged with grade-two dangerous contact for a high hit on halfback Jackson Hastings which led to him being sin-binned by referee Gerard Sutton in the 48th minute. He was also charged with a grade-one careless high tackle for an earlier hit on fullback Lachlan Miller.

He decided not to risk a three-game ban by challenging the Hastings incident while the Miller tackle left him with a fine of $1800.

Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty missed the match due to a virus but should be right to face Penrith on Friday.

Panthers forward Liam Martin (hamstring) missed the loss to Parra but should be right to tackle Canberra while Soni Luke (concussion) is yet to be cleared.

Cowboys forward Jeremiah Nanai has copped a two-week stint on the sidelines after being charged for his spear tackle on Titans back Phillip Sami.
