Draftstars Fantasy Tips: Insights to climb Wednesday's Big Bash Final Leaderboard

By The Roar / Editor

It’s been a blockbuster season of BBL cricket this Aussie summer with attendances up across the Country, some amazing highlights and the two best teams making the final.
Remember the Heat are missing Colin Munro, Sam Billings, Marnus Labuschagne & Usman Khawaja and the Sixers are missing James Vince. This preview is provided by Cricket Data professionals Wicky. You can find Wicky on their social media and discord community which are all free here.

Value Picks

Jimmy Peirson @ $12,000. Peirson opened the batting for the Heat in the 2 previous games but they brought Charlie Wakim in to open the bat last game and dropped one of their spinners. This was specifically due to Carrara Oval (Gold Coast) not being a good ground for spinners. We think the Heat will go back to their ‘usual’ formation and Peirson goes back to open the batting. At this price – he’s a steal for an opening bat who keeps as well.

Jack Edwards @ $16,500. Jack Edwards replaced James Vince as the opener for the Sixers and picked up 2/26 off 4 including a maiden last game. Look he may not bowl 4 overs again (last game he played was also at Carrara – he likely got 1-2 extra overs due to this). But an opening bat who bowls 2-4 overs priced at $16.5k? Screams value!

Sean Abbott @ $14,200. Pedigree > Form. If you agree with this, Abbott should be the first picked in your team. If the Sixers bowl first – he’s almost a must-have. Interestingly – he’s failed to pick up a wicket in his last 3 games which have been outside of Sydney. And he’s picked up at least 1 wicket in every game he’s played in Sydney this BBL.

Fade Options

Michael Neser @ $20,500. He’s often failed to bowl 4 overs this BBL and his one freak innings overshadows the fact that he’s largely either not batted at all or flopped with the bat. It’s a make or break call – but we think the fact that the Heat have 6 bowling options (excluding Matt Renshaw and Nathan McSweeney) and the fact that his batting has largely been unimpressive – the money you’d save fading the most expensive player in the contest could be better used elsewhere.

Team Building + Strategy

We’ve gone with our advice above – picking Jimmy Peirson, Sean Abbott & Jack Edwards. The upside of Josh Brown (coming off a 140 last game!) & the consistency of Xavier Bartlett, Jordan Silk & Nathan McSweeney felt like a nice balanced lineup. Generally we’d prefer pace bowlers from the team bowling first – the toss will be just after 6.30pm Sydney time. We’ll have updates after the toss on our free Discord community.

Key Matchup

Since the 2020/21 BBL – Sean Abbott averages 12 with the ball at the SCG. Along with the stats we mentioned above (wicketless in his last 3 non-Sydney games, at least 1 wicket in his last few Sydney games) – we think this is the standout matchup to look out for. You’d hope players structure their lineups around his recent form – but we think the way to go is backing in ‘Sabba’ to get the job done at home on the big stage
