Match result:

The Brisbane Lions took out the 2019 NEAFL Grand Final with an emphatic 76-point victory.

They will finish the historic season undefeated, 20 wins, no losses.

On top from the get-go, all the Southport Sharks players could do today was chase shadows, and credit to them for finishing the final quarter strong, and winning the last.

Match preview:

September is finals month, and the still-in-its-infancy NEAFL is no different, as the Brisbane Lions look to complete their historic and undefeated season against the Southport Sharks in the final game of the year, live from Fankhauser Reserve on the Gold Coast. The Brisbane Lions reserves team went through 18 games without a loss, breaking all sorts of records along the way, before dismantling the Sydney Swans in the preliminary final and reaching the grand final.

Brisbane finished the regular season with an incredible 200+ percentage, and don’t think for a second that is easy because this is a reserve level league – Brisbane still had to defeat strong opponents along the way.

The key for the Lions today will be how they hold up with having a 16-player cap on their AFL-listed players in the team, however, this is a club that is having success across the board, and appear to be performing on solid club-structures.

This will be a big chance for a lot of Lions players to put their names in the mind of Chris Fagan in the event of injuries in the AFL and a win over the Giants.

And it will be the top two teams from the regular season in this game, with Southport rounding out second place and comfortably accounting for Aspley to land them in a grand final and a chance for back-to-back premierships.

The formidable Lions outfit completely destroyed Southport in their Round 18 encounter earlier this year, with a 125-point win at this very oval.

But this is a grand final, and on that one day in September, past form means little, and it is all to play for.
