Adelaide will be hoping to start 2022 in style in front of their raucuous home fans when they host Fremantle on Sunday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scoresfrom 4:10pm (AEDT).
The Crows started 2021 with a shock win at home over Geelong, so have recent history on their side when it comes to opening-round upsets.
However, this time they’ll start favourites, owing to injuries which have taken a chunk out of the Dockers’ line-up. Most telling of the absentees are captain and superstar Nat Fyfe and ruckman Sean Darcy, both of whom are just about irreplaceable.
Heading into his third year, the time is now for Crows coach Matthew Nicks to begin to get this team in finals contention. The Crows’ best last year was lethal – not only did they beat the Cats, but eventual premiers Melbourne, too – but still have several key areas to address before they can challenge for a flag themselves.
For the Dockers, Justin Longmuir is also in his third year in charge, but the men in purple appear slightly more advanced than the Crows. Finals should be a bare minimum come season’s end, and they can’t afford to drop too many winnable games like this one to make it that far.
