Show Preview

A maximum crowd of 15,000 will be able to attend the match that stops a state as the Adelaide Crows battle the Port Adelaide Power in the year’s second Showdown. Follow along with one of Australia’s biggest rivalries on The Roar with live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

The Power have thumped the Crows in each of the last three Showdowns, winning by 49, 75 and 57 points. They will again start heavy favourites in this game.

The Crows are still mathematically in the hunt for finals – but only a statistician could devise a scenario in which they escape the bottom six, let alone make their way to September. Things have been going downhill on-field and off for Matthew Nicks’ team. Their loss to the Western Bulldogs in Round 20 has been compounded by revelations that gun forward Taylor Walker is under an AFL investigation for an alleged racial slur during a SANFL game.

Port, meanwhile, are flying. Wins in six of their last seven games gives them a stranglehold on a top-four spot, but while they’re a game clear of fifth-placed Sydney, they’ll be keen to extend their percentage gap to beyond the current 3.8%.

Walker is the big story heading into this match, the runner-up in the Coleman Medal having been left out of the 22 as speculation continues to build. Young tall Riley Thilthorpe returns at his expense. At the Power, Robbie Gray will be looking to add to his collection of Showdown Medals as he returns from a long injury absence.

The state government have decreed that a quarter-capacity crowd will be permitted at the Adelaide Oval, as South Australia deals with the nationwide COVID-19 outbreak.
