After weeks of speculation, the AFL trade period for 2020 finally gets underway today. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).

We had an explosive start to free agency, with Rory Atkins, Zac Williams, Isaac Smith, Aidan Corr and Joe Daniher all officially joining new clubs. Additionally, we saw St Kilda put in their bid for Brad Crouch and Geelong put their bid in for Jeremy Cameron.

The Giants have officially matched the Cats’ bid for Cameron meaning, for the first time in history, the two clubs will now need to work out a deal for the restricted free agent.

On the other hand, the Crows are yet to match the Brad Crouch bid, with the deadline for them to do so approaching today. The Saints have said they will not attempt to broker a trade if Adelaide do so.

Other free agents who are yet to be re-signed or bid on include Adelaide’s Kyle Hartigan, who will join Hawthorn, and Brisbane’s Stefan Martin, who is rumoured to be on the Western Bulldogs’ radar.

Some deals look to be something of a formality, with Jesse Hogan’s move from Fremantle to Greater Western Sydney sure to be organised sooner rather than later, while Ben Brown’s move from North Melbourne to Melbourne should be finalised in the early stages of the trade period.

There is little holding up Shane Higgins’ move from the Kangaroos to the Cats, although it’s likely that move will get put on the backburner as Geelong lock horns with GWS over the Cameron deal.

The big saga everyone is following now, however, is the one surrounding Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar. From all reports, this is proving to be a messy divorce, with the Magpies keen to offload the ex-Giant and his backended contract, but Treloar being keen to stay. This will be one to watch.
