The 2021 AFL trade period resumes this morning, after the first day proved somewhat slow. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).
There was a lot of talk in the opening day yesterday but, unfortunately, little action.
Only two items of news broke in the first 24 hours of trading; with fringe Bulldog Lewis Young requesting a trade to Carlton and multiple outlets reporting a potential move to West Coast for Port Adelaide midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper.
We heard precious little about the negotiations between Carlton and Fremantle over Adam Cerra, while Jordan Dawson’s move from Sydney to Adelaide, Jordan Clark’s move from Geelong to Fremantle and Callum Coleman-Jones’ move from Richmond to North Melbourne all reportedly hit roadblocks.
Peter Ladhams, who rivals are desperately circling to fill ruck niches, is also having his path to a new home made more difficult by a steep asking price from the Power.
We did have a trade go through at the death, however, with Collingwood and Gold Coast completing a complex pick swap that gives the Magpies all the ammo they need to match any bids on father-son prospect Nick Daicos, while giving the Suns a very healthy draft hand in 2022.
Will we have more action on the second day of the trade period? Stay tuned for all the updates.
