There’s just three days left before the AFL trade period comes to an end and still a mountain of deals to get done, guaranteeing a dramatic finish. Join The Roar for live trade news updates from 9am AEDT.
In an entire week of the trade period to date we have seen just three player trades, with Tim Kelly, Sam Frost and Ed Langdon all moving clubs last week.
Kelly joined West Coast from Geelong in exchange for a bounty of draft picks which, while they won’t immediately fill the gap he leaves behind, gives the Cats ample opportunity to add talent to their list.
Frost got to Hawthorn for the price, roughly, of a future second-round pick, while Langdon arrived at Melbourne for much the same, completing the Dees’ acquisition of a new wing pair alongside their free agency sining of Adam Tomlinson.
Other free agents to have moved clubs include Adelaide’s Cam Ellis-Yolmen, who is now at Brisbane, two-time Richmond premiership player Brand Ellis, who joined Gold Coast, and four-time flag-winner at Hawthorn Grant Birchall, on a one-year deal at the Lions.
The free agency window is now officially closed as of the end of Thursday last week, meaning Sam Jacobs will have to move to GWS via a trade rather than as a free agent.
Another Crow, Eddie Betts, is expected to get his wish of a return to Carlton sometime today, and it’s also believe that Adelaide will announce their next senior coach during the day.
Deals on the other hand for the likes of Tom Papley, Joe Daniher and Brad Hill on the other hand still seem a long way off – we may need to wait until Wednesday to find out their fate.
