The second-placed Brisbane Lions take on their traditional rivals, the Collingwood Magpies, in a game that is always a thriller up at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores, coverage and analysis from 7:35 pm (AEST).
Both teams are placed within the top eight, so this one should be a classic.
Last week’s match again the Cats could have gone either way for Brisbane and they will be looking to bounce back strongly at home in round 5. If not for the late sealer from Tom Hawkins the Lions could have pounced back easily at the last minute and stolen this one.
Daniel McStay was enormous last Friday and finished the game with 3 goals, 11 marks and 7 score involvements to keep the Lions’ forward line humming throughout the night. Lachie Neale was another shining light as he shook off the tag of Mark O’Connor to finish the game with 30 disposals, 11 clearances and 5 tackles.
The Magpies are just about the most difficult team to get a read on this season. They have two massive ins with Jordan De Goey and Taylor Adams included in the team, but their forward line will be missing Brody Mihocek and Jamie Elliott. Their forward line struggled against the Eagles last week after winning the inside 50 count early in the match and not taking their chances against a strong defensive duo in, Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass.
Mason Cox comes in to take the pressure off the forwards and replace Mihocek; he needs to sit forward and leave the ruck duties to Brodie Grundy and Darcy Cameron. The Daicos brothers, Nick and Josh, and Jack Crisp were all dominant last week with 28 disposals or more, and will look to continue their red hot form tonight.
Prediction
I just can’t see Collingwood kicking enough goals without Eliott and Mihocek. I am tipping the Lions by 24 points.
