The situation is getting desperate for the Brisbane Lions, who simply have to beat the Essendon Bombers to keep their season alive. Stay up to date with their AFL clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:25pm (AEST).

The season can get away from you quickly if you’re not careful, and that’s the situation Brisbane find themselves in currently having dropped three of their first four. The loss to Geelong was controversial, but the fact they never looked likely against Sydney or the Western Bulldogs was very concerning. You can recover from 1-3, but 1-4 would make things extremely difficult.

While Essendon also sport a 1-3 record, they didn’t nearly as high expectations for 2021 and won’t be feeling the pressure as much as their opponents. Their last fortnight has shown stunning improvement compared to the first – especially given the names they’ve got in the injury room – and they’ll be content with a competitive performance tonight.

The Lions dominated the Dons last year in a 63-point triumph, but they haven’t won consecutive games against Essendon since a four-game streak between 2004 and 2006. The Bombers have lost on their last three trips to the Gabba, but their last loss to Brisbane at the venue came way back in 2009.
