Show Preview

Brisbane will be keen to recover from last week’s shocking loss when they host GWS on Saturday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 1:45pm (AEST).

Much of the AFL industry believes that Brisbane are the number two seed as we head into the second half of the season. In fact, many think they could well be the only team capable of knocking off the Demons when it comes to the business end of the year.

That thinking was put to the test when Hawthorn took them on through the middle of the ground and claimed the four points in Round 10. Lions coach Chris Fagan will be demanding and expecting an immediate response against the Giants, a team struggling to find its best and now living in the post-Leon Cameron era.

GWS dealt with the hapless Eagles last week to begin their journey without Cameron at the helm, yet have just three wins to show in a season that has not lived up to internal expectations, nor those of a fan base hoping to see the best of some of their young talent that appeared ready to explode into action in 2022.

Team news sees the Lions lose Hugh McCluggage, adding to an already concerning injury list that includes Joe Daniher; whilst the Giants remain fairly settled at the selection table. The biggest question is where Harry Himmelberg will play after venturing into the backline last weekend.

Prediction

It is highly unlikely that Brisbane will lose consecutive matches on the run home to the semi-finals and that translates to a tough afternoon ahead for the Giants up north.

Frankly, Fagan would not have been happy with the performance against the Hawks and look for a definite response and a potential flogging of a Giants team destined to finish in the also-ran section of the competition for 2022.
