The Brisbane Lions and Melbourne Demons will do battle at The Gabba during Round 15, and on paper, it’s a chance for the home side to further build their spot in the top eight. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3:20pm (AEST).

Brisbane will be out to cement their spot in the top eight this weekend as the second half of the season starts to pick up pace.

We are on the home stretch to the finals now, and the Lions have been one of the bis surprises this season. Widely tipped to miss the eight, they currently find themselves in sixth spot.

In saying that, their form the last couple of weeks has been a little on the inconsistent side, with unexpected losses to the likes of Carlton and Fremantle tangled up with wins over St Kilda, Hawthorn, Adelaide and the Swans.

Melbourne, on the other hand, have been downright poor and their chance of playing finals footy already appears to have sailed up the river.

They have won just four games, and while it’s not mathematically impossible for them to feature throughout the month of September, they will need to kick-start a winning run – and a long one – today in Brisbane.

The Demons did come away with their fourth win of the season last week against Fremantle in what was a fairly strong performance, however, the fact they had lost four straight before that probably shows more where the club is at this stage.

Mainly, it’s been their attack and effectiveness inside 50 which has been the problem in low-scoring games, however, it’s their defence which will need to stand up today against the elusive Brisbane midfield and strong forwards line if the Demons are to have a chance.

Prediction
The Lions are at home, and have been in reasonably good touch despite a couple of stumbles here and there. Expect them to get the job done over an inconsistent, ordinary Demons outfit.

Lions by 25.
