Match result:

The Melbourne Demons have defeated the Brisbane Lions by 39 points at Hickey Park.

From the beginning until the end, the Demons were far too good for the Lions. Majority of the damage was done in the first half. The Lions could simply not match the intensity of the Demons.

Aliesha Newman was terrific for Melbourne and she really did put some distance between the two sides when it mattered most. Lauren Pearce was also terrific in the ruck for the Demons.

Final score
Brisbane: 3.3.21
Melbourne: 9.6.60

The Lions currently have one win and one loss after two rounds of the new season, but the loss came last week to the Fremantle Dockers on the road.

The Lions were convincingly beat in the end by 17 points.

Alexandra Anderson was the pick of the Brisbane side that lost to the Dockers, accumulating 26 disposals.

She was also able to chip in with a goal, and the Lions coaching staff will no doubt be looking for her to put together that type of performance again against the Demons.

Jess Wuetschner and Nat Exon were the most clinical in front of goal last week, as they both finished with two goals each come the end of the game.

The Demons, on the other hand, are coming off an impressive win over the Collingwood Magpies. Melbourne were 17-point victors over the Pies last week, which means they have won one game after the first two rounds.

Elise O’Dea was superb last week for the Demons reeling in 26 disposals. When it came to the goals, the Demons only scored a total of three through Tyla Hanks, Lauren Pearce and O’Dea.

They were defensively sound, which meant they did not need a huge number of chances to win the game. Melbourne were able to keep Collingwood to just the one goal.

With both sides having a similar start to the season in terms of experiencing a high and low, this game has the potential to be a belter.

Prediction
This is quite a tough game to predict. Both sides are fairly even in terms of talent, which means it will come down to who wants it more on the day.

With the Lions needing to bounce back after last week’s defeat, they will be hungry this week against the Demons.

The Lions to prevail by nine points.
