It’s the champs versus the challengers at the Gabba as the Richmond Tigers travel to face the Brisbanee Lions. Stay up to date with this AFL blockbuster through live scores right here on The Roar from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Once the most feared side in the land, a horror run of injuries has seen the Tigers fall down the pecking order to start 2021. Missing stars Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, Kane Lambert and Dion Prestia, just to name a few, and it’s little wonder the reigning premiers head to the Gabba as underdogs.

Nevertheless, the Tigers remain seriously hard to beat. They pinched a remarkable victory over GWS last week, despite trailing by as much as 27 points, with Daniel Rioli booting a last-gasp winner that keeps them well and truly in the top eight. If any team can defy the doubters and take the Lions down, it’s them.

However, Chris Fagan’s men are as imposing as ever – especially at home. They’ve won five matches in a row to recover from a sluggish start to the year, last week obliterating crosstown rivals Gold Coast by 73 points. With boom Joe Daniher fitting in superbly up forward, breakout youngster Zac Bailey a more than handy substitution for the injured Lachie Neale in midfield and Hugh McCluggage officially entering the competition’s elite, it’s indisputable the Lions will be challenging for the flag once again in 2021.

These two teams staged a thrilling qualifying final when they last met in October 2020, with the Lions prevailing by 15 points to, briefly, appear to have ended the Tigers’ era. Briefly.
