Saturday twilight football heads to Queensland, as Brisbane Lions host a struggling Sydney Swans at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:35pm AEST.

Brisbane’s year, starting so well before faltering with consecutive losses to Victorian super clubs Essendon and Collingwood, got back into safer territory with a win over the Suns last weekend, so being back at the Gabba will suit them well. Sydney’s year, though… well, it’s been dreadful, and they’re stranded on one win from six starts.

Brisbane has been playing strong football, but it’s important to remember they are still a young, inconsistent side and the Swans are a club that they have not defeated in roughly a decade – which is one hell of a stat to get over.

For mine, today’s clash is probably the best opportunity in a long while for Brisbane to poach the four points over the New South Welshmen.

Sydney were competitive for much of the clash against the Giants last weekend, which bodes well. If they get a fast start against Brisbane, and frustrate the young Lions, they might be able to get on a run.

Brisbane have fallen away badly when facing the Victorian clubs in the past few weeks, so will be striving to keep to the basics and not head in overconfident against Sydney, who are underdogs in most of the AFL circles at the moment.

After last week’s strong effort against Gold Coast, the Lions have opted to make no selection changes today.

Sydney – who will be without stalwart Lance Franklin again this week – have made three changes to their squad. Ryan Clarke, Ben Ronke and James Rowbottom have all out, with Robbie Fox, Will Hayward and veteran Kieren Jack returning.

Prediction
Sydney, owing to their underwhelming start to the season, are probably likely to come out firing in today’s clash.

But Brisbane will be in front of what is likely to be a vocal home crowd, and with the Swans still looking decisively out of sorts, I’ve gotta back the home team. I don’t see a blow out happening, though.

Brisbane by 9 points
